For multitouch devices, Electrum has a multitouch pad dialog as well (See Menu->Play Multitouch pads) where you can play just like an MPC by hitting the pads.

LATENCY OF THE MULTITOUCH PADS DEPENDS ON YOUR DEVICE. SOME DEVICES HAVE VERY BAD LAG RESPONSE. TESTED AS FAST: GALAXY TABLET, DROID X, DROID 1. KNOWN BAD: HTC DESIRE.

HTC WILDFIRE IS TOO SLOW OF A DEVICE TO run Electrum effectively. Sorry, upgrade your device, it’s just too slow (523Mhz only).

Please NOTE: The pads on the main screen are not designed to play real time because they are not multitouch. Use the multitouch pads for that.

Also check out my ReLoop music sequencer, which allows you to sequence loops just like Garageband or Sony’s ACID.

PERMISSIONS:

PHONE STATE/IDENTITY – used to stop playing if a phone call comes in. IDENTITY is NOT used for anything and it not read at all.

SDCARD WRITE/READ – used to read sound files, and to save settings, patches, and drummkits

This player behaves different to the Android standard player and most alternative players. It is particularly suitable for people who often want to switch between music and audio books/podcasts.

The user interface of the player is not based on artists or albums, but on the folder structure. Each folder which contains audio files will appear in the list separately.

* Quickly switch between folders
If you select a folder in the folder list, it will start exactly at the last played position. This allows you to quickly switch between folders. There no need to create bookmarks manually.

* Seek Buttons
For long podcasts and audio books it is difficult to skip to a certain position. Especially if the audio book is one big file. Therefore the Music Folder Player provides 'Seek Buttons'. They can be used to jump in step forward or backward. The jump distance and direction is configurable for each button between 1s and 99s and between 1% and 9%.

*Undo function
If you accidentally touch a button or select another track, the undo button appears.

**** KNOWN PROBLEMS BY DEVICE ****
— all devices –
– some cases are disturbing/blocking proximity sensor
– when using a screen protector, you loose some proximity sensitivity, so you may want to adjust it to free the sensor
— HTC thunderbolt –
Apparently, the gap between the top of the screen and the earpiece (near the proximity sensor) allows dust in, which causes the sensor to not work. You fix this by simply blowing air into the gap (an air compressor may help).
— Samsung Galaxy Ace –
Some version of this device disable accelerometer when screen goes off.. I can’t do anything about it…
